Channel all the summer feelings with the amazing knit Tulip Wrap Tank by Knitatude! Read all about this great design that I had the pleasure to test and find out why you need to get this pattern!

Inspiration

One of the things that I found out this year is that I love testing for other designers.

It helps me connect with other makers, it’s a way to help designers improve their patterns, and overall it’s just one of those things that I really enjoy doing. So now, I’m always on the lookout for a tester call. 🙂

And one day when I was feeling like I could really use a test to lift up my spirits, there it was. A tester call from Knitatude to make a summer knit tank top!! How perfect can things get?? 😀

The Designer

You may have seen me gushing over Chatal from Knitatude in a couple of posts (like this one, and this one also), but I just can’t help myself. I thoroughly admire her and her work. She’s a really honest and down to earth person, a hard-working entrepreneur, and a fabulous designer. As a designer, she distinguishes herself by publishing garments that are both accessible to beginners and size-inclusive!

So when the opportunity to test for your designer crush arises, there’s nothing much to do but apply! And so I did. And this was so meant to be because I was one of the lucky ones to be chosen to test the knit Tulip Wrap Tank!!

The Pattern

The pattern is a perfect summer knit!

As Chantal describes it:

This knit tank top is cool, drapetastic, and effortless to wear. Knit flat and then seamed, the pieces come together to form the perfect V-neck swoop. Light and airy, but hugging the right places (…) With the classic look of stockinette, this tank has delicate garter stitch border, and subtle details that can only be made by a specific combination of decrease stitches. Add a beautiful twist with ribbed straps, and you’ve got a slinky, soft summer tank!

I couldn’t wait to start!

Project

For this pattern, Chantal used Truboo, a DK weight yarn that is a mix of cotton and bamboo. I couldn’t get that one in time for the test so I had to go yarn subbing.

My first thought was to use what remained of Katia Polynesia from my Blue Sky Tee. The yarn also has a sheen to it and the drape seemed similar. I swatched and I got gauge on my first try so it seemed like this would work. However, as I started the top I quickly realized that this yarn would not do justice to the pattern. It has terrible stitch definition so the subtleties of the pattern would be lost in this yarn. And this would not do.

So for my next choice, I went for a yarn that would really make all the different stitches pop. I chose a 100% cotton yarn, the Rowan Summerlite DK in Coral Blush, a color that screams SUMMER! I had to change needle size to get gauge, but the stitch definition in this yarn is just amazing and the drape is fantastic. This one was definitely a winner!

As with any of Chantal’s designs this one is a stunner and easy to make!

It consists of 3 panels, so yay for knitting flat. The panels include a section of ribbing, followed by a section of stockinette stitch.

But there’s more!

The panels also include a garter stitch detail, but it is at the decreases that this design really stands out. When you’re getting close to the straps, the pattern changes slightly and you get these wonderful details at the border. And once again, these details are made with very easy stitches so that any beginner can definitely make this one!

Once the panels are done, all you need to do is seam them together and you are done! If you’re like me and don’t like seaming, I can promise you, you’ll be so delighted with your tank that the seaming will fly by!

Final thoughts on the Tulip Wrap Tank

You need this tank top in your wardrobe!
