Traveling Knit Afghan – Square Twenty by Hands Occupied
Square Twenty of the Traveling Knit Afghan is here with another wonderful texture!
After finishing its tour around Minnesota with While They Dream, the Traveling knit Afghan is now in the beautiful city of Chicago, Illinois. Read more on this afghan’s itinerary in this post here.
Inspiration
Heidi Gustad of Hands Occupied is the designer of the twentieth square of our afghan.
Heidi is a full-time professional craft designer and content creator and her brand has recently completed 10 years! She started out as a crochet and knit designer, but her style has evolved and she herself has branched out as a creator. She has been focusing her crafting on latch hook and has even published her first book: Latch Hook: 12 Projects for the Modern Maker.
Heidi definitely has a very unique vision and it transpires in her designs. But in her uniqueness, there is also something that I think it’s quite common amongst us crafters. And that is feelings of anxiety and insecurity. Whether we feel these more strongly or whether it shows in different ways, we feel them. And Heidi has shown over these 10 years that there are ways that these feelings can be dealt with and that you can feel happy and happier in your own skin!
I really encourage you to read her story on her blog and enjoy her space!
Project
For this square, I used the Cream Norway 10 ply yarn from Morris & Sons and my 4.0 mm knitting needles.
The squares are piling up!!
Pattern
All the materials and other information needed for the pattern are listed in Hands Occupied blog post.
Traveling Knit Afghan – Square Twenty by Hands Occupied
Here is the pattern for Square Twenty of the Traveling Knit Afghan.
This square features a textured stitch called Triangle Rib Stitch. As with most beautiful textured stitches we have seen so far, it only requires slip stitches, knits, and purls. And you’ll do these over a 6-row repeat and voila, you’ve got yourself a triangle rib stitch pattern!
There are written instructions and they are very simple and easy to follow. However, if you are more of a visual learner, there is also a video tutorial for this stitch to make this square as stress free as possible!
This stitch will flow off your needles in no time and once you’re done, just wet block your square and you’re good to go! Read more about blocking in this blog post here!
Final thoughts on Square Twenty
An easy square design with a wonderful meditative flow!
Heidi is open about her anxiety and I just admire her for being that brave. I also love that she shares her journey and her lessons learned. I believe that when we share these experiences, they are sure to help someone else grow, not just us. Her experience has resonated with me, and I thank her for sharing her backstory. It reminded me that life is to be enjoyed and that we just have to take things easy and keep our minds and hands occupied with the things we love! 😉
See you in the next square!
