Square Three of the Traveling Knit Afghan, designed by The Queen Stitch, is here to rule!

After Veliko Tarnovo in Bulgaria, the Traveling Knit Afghan has made its way to Dublin, Ireland! Head over to my previous blog post to see the Nomad Stitches’ square or jump to the first blog post about the Traveling Afghans to see what this is all about!

Inspiration

The third square of the knit afghan is designed by Katie Moore of The Queen Stitch. I will admit that I didn’t know Katie’s work before this square and after looking around her blog for a while, I just can’t believe what I’ve been missing!

She is one of the most fun designers I’ve seen and her work is full of color and life! Her designs are certainly out of the ordinary and she definitely reminds you to have fun in whatever it is that you do! She says that her square represents the ownership of our own space and actions and I find it truly inspiring. Even if sometimes we don’t see it, the truth is that we can do anything if we put our minds to it and work for it!

In short, head over to her blog, see how bright life can be and strive to rule over your world! 😀

Project

For this square, I went back to my Beige Norway 10 ply yarn from Morris & Sons. I used it also in my first square. I’ll be interchanging the Beige and the Cream for my afghan.

Furthermore, I’m still working with the 4.00 mm knitting needles and I finally got my blocking mats!!! Aren’t they beautiful? 😀 You can read my review here!

Pattern

All the materials and other information needed for the pattern are listed in The Queen Stitch blog post.

Here is the pattern for Square Three of the Traveling Knit Afghan.

This is a simple pattern to boost up your morale! All you need is knits and purls. Moreover, you can find the instructions for the motif as a graph or written as a pattern.

However, I will note that for this square, the blocking mat was indispensable. My square just kept rolling itself and without blocking, it just wouldn’t work.

Final thoughts on Square Three

This is a simple, straightforward and absolutely beginner-friendly design.

After all the new techniques I learned with Sandra’s square it felt quite good to go back to something simpler. But I didn’t just go back. Now, I feel empowered by everything I learned before and this square, was the cherry (or better yet, the crown) on top!

I hope this square also makes you feel invigorated for the next one!

See you there! 😉
